Botox for Gummy Smile Correction
I’ve already had laser hair removal and am currently treating my skin with a holistic esthetician, but I was admittedly curious about the botox and fillers. Namely, I wanted to try botox in my upper lip in order to remedy a mild ‘flaw’, the so-called “gummy smile” that sometimes appears when I smile naturally.
They knew exactly what I was talking about and gave me my first injection that day. Botox is temporary and wears off in just a few months anyway. There was no swelling, redness, or downtime at all! And, just as they told me would happen, I saw the botox take effect gradually over the last two weeks.
First Impression
For one thing, it works. I had zero control over the muscles in the center of my upper lip, and when I smile, there is little gum showing. (I also lost the ability to whistle for a while, though that seems to be coming back.)
Unexpected Perks of Botox in Upper Lip
The paralysis of the upper lip muscles results in a subtle ‘plumping’ effect without fillers as the reduced muscle tension makes it hang down a tiny bit more.
Ultimately, I realized that to correct my smile, I would need to use botox more on the sides of my upper lip, and there would be a bit of trial and error for any practitioner trying to find just the right muscles to target.
Botox is great, just not for me.
I satisfied my curiosity with botox for now and have decided to re-focus on diet and skincare as the main pillars of my beauty regimen.
