Pandemic isolation has been especially hard because exercise is one of my favorite forms of stress release… but the gym has been closed for weeks now! I was attending regular yoga classes in the months leading up to the pandemic, and I made some good progress.
Continuing my yoga practice at home has been the obvious choice. At least I get to indulge in naked yoga more frequently, or in this case ‘no pants yoga’. It’s hard to go for a jog with a mask, plus I don’t really feel all that energized for cardio lately anyway. Quick gentle yoga sessions here and there seem to be enough to keep my muscles working while the gym is closed. I do feel limited with what I can do alone at my home (you’ll see I check my alignment a lot throughout the video) but I’m pleased that I now know enough yoga to sort of design my own yoga flows now, like this one!
This morning yoga routine was right after I hopped out of bed with a stiff back… the focus is on releasing tension GENTLY starting with my shoulders, then hips, and finally the lower back.
The shoulder stretch looks really easy (and it is!) but it’s surprisingly effective (make sure to hold each pose and take deep breaths for additional stretching.) Half pidgeon and those hip openers are tougher, but as long as you feel the stretch it’s enough. Don’t overdo it or worry about looking perfect, just fold forward and BREATHE. SO GOOD.
And finally for the forward fold, leave a generous bend in the knees and focus on releasing or as they say “breathing in to” the back (not the hamstrings!) Hope you enjoy! Thank you for your support here and on Patreon, it means the world to me.
